Here’s a community-building game that is fun and creative.
One person starts the game by doing an action, for example wiggling their thumb in front of them. Someone else asks them Hey X, what are you doing? The person who started replies with a made-up verb, for example I’m joggling!
The person who asked then joins in doing the same action.
Someone else then says That’s not joggling! This is joggling… and they start doing a different action, such as standing on one leg and moving their arms as if they are running.
The initial two people now change their action to the new action, so there are now three people doing the new action.
The game continues with another person joining in by saying That’s not joggling! This is joggling… and doing another new action. This goes on until the entire class is involved, all doing the same final action.
The game works equally well face-to-face or virtually.
This is another way to help everyone feel comfortable talking in front of the whole class.
With energetic actions this will make a good PE warm-up which involves oracy too.
Or, you could limit it to actions which can be done seated in the P4C circle.
Enjoy your joggling!
